Note: For the sake of this article, we will focus on the smartphone app of Instagram, not the website version. However, the processes are similar in theory.

1. Link In Bio

Instagram bio is the favorite section of the app for users to place their YouTube links, and it can be a link to a specific video or your channel. You can place your YouTube link in your bio with these easy steps:

  1. Open the Instagram app.
  2. Tap on your profile icon at the bottom-left corner of your screen.
  3. Tap on the ‘Edit Profile option.
  4. Now tap on Bio.
  5. Paste or type your YouTube link here.
  6. Just above Bio, there is also an option to add your website link. You can add that as well.

As you may have noticed, you can add one clickable link in the bio. If you want to add multiple links, you can use a service like Linktree. This one link that you create through Linktree will contain a landing page that will have multiple links on it. Linktree landing page is highly customizable, so you can experiment with it. You can also find other similar services by searching for “Linktree alternatives”.

2. Link In Caption

This option is not as effective as the first one, but it definitely still works. You can place a link to your YouTube video or channel in the caption of the Instagram post. However, the link will not be clickable, so the key here is to make it easier to memorize.

To do this, you can use link shortening tools like Bitly or TinyURL. These tools simply create a shortened version of your YouTube link. This helps reduce the characters in the link, making it easier to remember. The reason this method is not as effective is that the viewer has to enter the link in their browser manually, as it is not clickable.

3. Swipe Up Link

Another popular Instagram feature that many users use is Stories. The stories play for just 15 seconds and by default last for 24 hours. There’s an opportunity for posting a YouTube link here, since the feature allows you to add a link to your story, which users can access by swiping up on their screens. This is quite an effective feature, but there’s a catch. To unlock this feature, you need to have more than 10k followers or have a verified account. This is no easy feat but is surely worth it.

4. Link In IGTV Description

IGTV is a feature of Instagram made explicitly for sharing videos. The fun part is that you get to place a clickable link in the description of a video posted on IGTV. Users can read the description by clicking the little arrow next to the title of the video.

5. Other ways

Other than these four methods, there are some other ways as well, but they are paid or just too obvious. Here is a list of such methods:

  1. You can send your YouTube links in Direct Messages (DMs).
  2. If you pay to promote your posts and stories, Instagram gives you an option to place a clickable link, even in the post captions.
  3. Posting paid ads is an option.
  4. You can place links if you create a shoppable post.

So the next time you’re wondering how to post a YouTube link on Instagram, just use one of the methods listed above.
